I recently bought myself a new cookbook. Home Made Winter by Yvette Van Boven. I do not have the first Home Made cookbook that she published but I certainly want it now. I was attracted to the fun cover – Yes, I do occasionally choose wine based on the adorable labels – and I was so happy to learn that sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. I have been having fun working my way through the recipes and I enjoy Yvette’s method of sharing her recipes. She often draws her instructions – fun, helpful and quirky. Her writing is easy to understand and her delivery is often entertaining. Most importantly her recipes are well constructed and tasty.
I am including one of my daily favorites – very simple but I have loved it. There are many yummy things to cook but this tea is great throughout the day and a good one to sip while contemplating the other recipes in the book and making your grocery list. Enjoy.
- 3 slices fresh ginger
- 1 stick of licorice root
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp grated orange zest
- 1 clove
- Put the ginger and licorice root in a pan, add 4.5 cups water, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Take the pan off of the heat and add all of the remaining ingredients.
- Let the tea steep for another 15 minutes.
- Strain through a sieve into a teapot of mugs.
