The Green Room, as I like to call it now, started with an inspiration board that looked something like this:
The client wanted a fun and fairly traditional, timeless floral to get the ball rolling. It is always nice to have a jumping off point – a beloved rug or a particular fabric pattern, even a collection of artwork or antiques. This gives you a place to start, a design direction – like a compass to keep you on track throughout the job.
We started building a room around a perky floral chintz, adding some traditional upholstered furniture in coordinating solids and smaller scale patterns. This particular client loves green so we really ramped up the greens in various shades and weaves, to add interest. We pulled some blues out and a hint of pink for some variety and balance. Trims and tassels added a nod to traditional elegance and a little fun fuss. A soft green area rug with a quiet pattern keeps things fresh and clean feeling. You can start to imagine this room in a Boston brownstone!
Traditional Spring Look – Timeless, Comfortable, Fresh by deliciousperspective featuring a skirted chair
The lighting can be interesting yet understated and artwork can either keep with the traditional feel or move in a more contemporary direction – artwork is a great way to personalize a room to the client. I believe in choosing pieces that the client feels a connection with. If they like the room design then the artwork and decorative accessories will follow the feeling of the room and reflect their personality.
This room could easily be moved in a more glamorously contemporary direction with a few minor tweaks, a few well chosen accessories and some lighting with a modern feel.
Whether its modern glam or traditional elegance, a great green can put a spring in your step (pun intended)! Surround yourself with what you love and what makes your space feel like home and you can’t go wrong – of course a good designer can help you along the way 🙂
Happy Spring!
